The Portrait FAQ

Q1: What should my child wear?

We discuss clothing specific to your child in our pre-shoot meeting but some general guidelines for group portraits are worth reviewing here. Clothing can make or break an image. Some choices look great to the eye but appear less than stellar on camera so you can never have too many choices during your shoot. We also offer a wardrobe service.

Q2: How does the wardrobe service work?

The wardrobe service gives you one less thing to worry about. We select outfits that suit your child and make them look their best. The right clothing choices keep your child at the centre of attention. Your child will be excited to try on new clothes and changes provide nice natural breaks and keep the shoot fresh. The wardrobe service is $100 and we shop for 4-6 outfits to be worn during the shoot.

Q3: What does the session fee include?

The $250 session fee pays for the studio time and talent of the photographer. It also includes:

  • a pre-portrait consultation to talk about your child ensure a successful session
  • an unhurried and relaxed photo-shoot, lasting around two hours
  • unlimited poses and clothing changes
  • an in-person viewing and order session
  • post session image preparation and delivery

The fee includes all post-processing work. All images are reviewed, selected and processed by the photographer with the artist’s final vision in mind. The session fee does not include any finished printed portraits. The fee is due at the time of your portrait session. Session fees are non-refundable, however with 48 hours notice it can be rescheduled in case of an emergency.

Q4: When can I view the final images?

Your images are available for an in-person viewing appointment two weeks after the shoot. We can book an appointment at the end of the shoot.

Q5: What is the viewing & ordering appointment?

The Viewing & Ordering Appointment is a time when your child shines and you get to see all of our creative results. This is an opportunity to relax and enjoy each image on our 42" monitor. You select prints and products to best showcase your portraits. We're there to help determine what will look best in your home and make print size and product suggestions that best compliment each image.

Q6: Can I get a change made to an image, maybe I want a B&W version converted to color.

There's a minimum charge of $50 per image edit. We discuss the change you want to see and the final charge is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Q7: When are my pieces delivered?

Please allow a 4-6 week turn around for lab work. After you place your order, we optimize the images for the products selected and review the pieces as they come back from the lab. We track the shipment and call you to setup a time to deliver them. We can't wait to see them displayed in your home too!

Q8: Do you supply digital files?

We feel the piece is not complete until it's printed but we do provide a screen friendly version of each portrait you purchase to share with friends and family. Your files are optimized for onscreen viewing and sized at 1024 x 680 pixels. The files are 8bit sRGB IEC61966-2.1 JPEG with maximum quality.

Q9: Can I just buy digital files instead?

Yes, choose 10 images as digital files for $800. The files are 8bit sRGB IEC61966-2.1 JPEG with maximum quality and suitable for 8x12 prints as often as you like.

Q10: What is the Model Release?

The Model Release provides written signed consent enabling me to use your child's portrait, image, or likeness for any trade or commercial purpose. This allows me to use any images created during your commissioned session in my portfolio whether online or in print, displayed in the studio or used in other advertising and marketing materials. The Model Release must be read and signed before the session begins. A copy for you to review beforehand at your leisure is included here. A printed copy will be provided at the studio for us both to date and sign.

Q11: What is the Portrait Agreement?

The Portrait Agreement outlines the studio policies and includes details specific to your session so you have a reference for when and what you'll receive before, during and after the session. The agreement absolves us from any and all damages or losses occurred while on the premises or during the shoot. The Portrait Agreement must be read and signed before the session is booked. A copy for you to review is included here. If you have not signed a copy before you book your session, a printed copy will be provided at the studio for you to date and sign.
